about me
Based in San Francisco, CA, I am passionate about objectivity and functionality in both my photography and design. Although I spend my days pressing keys and buttons, I believe the most powerful tools are careful thought and research and I try to bring this to all the work that I do. Simple observations can reveal complex truths and are often overlooked. My goal is to uncover these by being present and receptive regardless of the type of task I am doing.
I was named after General Bernard Montgomery and so was my site but there is more to the “general” in the name. The current trend in the modern workplace is towards specialization and in many cases, a team of specialists will do a superb job. But without the ability to understand the way things fit together in a general sense we lose a valuable asset, not to mention a part of our human vitality. To that end, I am constantly honing my best skills and learning new ones. In the last year, in addition to refining my skills in photography and graphic design, I’ve taught myself HTML and CSS so I could build websites from scratch, joined a softball team and spent a week in Hanoi by myself.
Please feel free to use the photographs on my blog, but if you do (as you should with everyone’s work) please attribute it appropriately. If there is something I can do or learn for you, or if you are interested in prints of any photographs on this site, shoot me an email. I’m a lot more fun than this little description suggests.
